Splash Damage: Urge Overkill, WMP XI

with one comment

If you go to urge.com (the joint venture to destroy iTunes formed by Microsoft and MTV) you won't find much of anything yet, and certainly not WMP 11.  There are copies floating around the net that's been ripped clean and fresh off of the latest Vista Build, and you can find that rather easily.

WMP 10, if you're not aware, features the basics like the Device integration and management, auto tagging from the Internet, smart playlisting (one thing that's usually tagged as an iTunes exclusive, but it's been available for many jukeboxes, including that piece of crap SonicStage 1.5), etc.  The new one takes the lessons learned from the 10 ft. UI in Media Center PCs, which is essentially 10 ft. UI/Skin for WMP 10, and translates that into the new version.

Between WMP 11 and SonicStage 4.0 featuring Connect, the iTunes thing is looking slightly long in the tooth, don't it?

  1. I’ve always stayed away from WMP purely from the standpoint that it wasn’t user friendly to me and didn’t allow me manual control as simply as I’d like… but I confess I never took much time playing with it as I had used Winamp for several years.

So you prefer SonicStage 4 and WMP11 to iTunes, eh?
