Splash Damage: The Creative Zen AURVANA

with one comment

So, what the heck is an Aurvana?  It's one of these, apparently.  So, now Creative is seemingly getting into the high end IEM market (don't forget, they already market some OEM Semi-IEMs too) to compete with the Fruity Company Shure's and UE's of the world.  Best of luck to you, though, it's ventures like this though that doesn't really help it take over the market vs. the iPod.

Specs for the curious.

Driver Unit:  Balanced Armature
Frequency Response:  20Hz-20kHz
Impedance:  42ohms
Sensitivity:  115dB
Cord Length:  1.2m (Oxygen-Free Copper cable)
Input Plug:  3.5mm stereo gold-plated miniplug
Net Weight:  13g (without packaging)

Smells like an entry IEM (~$100 range) more than anything else.  Should be interesting to see how they compare to the other IEMs in the area (Shure E2, SuperFi 3).

Finally, to cap it off, it looks a bit like shinier and stubbier Shure E3s, don't it?

  1. It’s a single balanced armature a’la Shure E3/E4. However, there’s no tuned port, so it looks to be an E3 dupe. Impedance is slightly higher on this than the E3. It’d be interesting to hear these in comparison. Definitely being cheaper is a plus.
